Pedagogy as Art
I have been an artist who teaches since 2000. I have taught art, transnationally, to ages 4-70. I have lectured at Goldsmiths, University of London and am currently at London College of Communication, University of the Arts London.
Contextual and Theoretical Studies Students on the Second Year of the BA at London College of Communication were asked to consider:
With the current political climate of May and Trump implementing illegal deportations and bans on people based on race and ethnicity, pretend that May or Trump have detained you for being some type of "other" (this can be factual or fictional). You have been locked away without communication to the outside world and have not eaten for 20 hours. You have no idea what is going on. The authorities have taken all your papers and passport. There is a person who you can hear in the cell next to you. They tell you that they are a reporter with both a British and American passport. It is because they have dual citizenship that they have been questioned and detained but know they will be set free. They have a recording device that the authorities did not catch in all the hollabaolou inside their jacket pocket. They will record you and when set free they will tell the people outside your story.
We then recorded this piece at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London studio.
